MEK’s 19th Annual BCA Prep Test Event was a huge success! We had 115 students take practice Bergen County Academies’ admission test while their parents listened to our special presentation on how best to prepare their incoming 8th graders for the admissions process. We are so excited and happy over the overwhelming interest in our BCA programs. We hope those who attended learned a great deal and had as much fun as we did!
If you were unable to attend, don’t worry!
Here is a recap of what you missed:

MEK’s 2018-2019 BCA Prep program plan:
MEK has spent 18 years building the perfect BCA Prep Program. Every year the number of students enrolled in our program has gone up as well as the number of students accepted into their school of choice. We don’t just focus on BCA but other magnet and private schools as well. However, for so many BCA is synonymous with their dream high school.
MEK is dedicated to a program of student success, not just student acceptance. In other words, we don’t work for BCA, BT, or A@E. Our job is to help children reach their individual goals and personal dream high school.
Picking the right high school:
What is the difference between a local high school and a magnet school? A magnet school and a private school? And which is right for you child?
Magnet schools like private schools require an admissions process and are often very competitive and offer top notch education. However, unlike private schools, magnet schools are free if you are accepted.
They are often difficult to get into because of the resources they can offer your children, the opportunities to focus on a specific passion or subject, and their stellar reputation. A magnet school has a more hands-on curriculum and requires higher level critical thinking while still adhering to Common Core Classroom Standards. They also tend to have a much more diverse student body since the main criteria for attending is interest in the school’s theme. Furthermore, magnet schools have much more internship opportunities than a local high school.
When picking a school(s) for your child to apply to, it is important to understand the character of the school and the different programs they offer:
Having a Strategy:
At MEK we love the word strategy. We believe it is the key to guiding our children to success. Parents care about their children’s high school because they understand that it is a stepping stone to college success, and college success is a stepping stone to life success. We have spent 18 years building a strategy that works! A strategy that helps you child get into top schools as well as the school that is the right fit for their interests and passions.
That strategy includes an accurate and reoccurring assessment of your child’s skills, teaching them how to master test curriculum, teaching them effective and efficient test-taking strategies, giving them individual support for their areas of weaknesses, and personalized guidance for their application(s).
The 3 Stages of our Program:
MEK has three stages to our program. We call it our Total Care Package for High School Admissions!
The first stage begins July 9th and continues through August 24th!
