School Support Tutoring Program (9-12)
Everyone knows that a great GPA is instrumental in gaining admission to prestigious or reputable colleges. Therefore, maintaining high grades in high school is especially important for the college-aspiring student. Help your child improve or keep up his or her grades throughout the academic year with our *NEW* School Support Tutoring Program. This program is designed to boost performance in Science, Math, and Social Studies classes.
Each 1-on-1 tutoring session takes a highly individualized approach to your child’s unique classroom struggles. Students may opt for direct communication between MEK and their schoolteachers for a more cohesive tutoring experience. SSTP sessions include practice taken from MEK curricula as well as directly from your child’s lessons in school. This program becomes increasingly important as the academic year progresses and students’ weaknesses in particular subjects become more apparent. If your child struggles in Science, Math, or Social Studies and needs focused review of important concepts, a minimum of 5 weeks of tutoring is recommended.
SAT Core Reading and Writing (9-10)
*Summer 2017 HS Science and Math students should move on to SAT Core classes
SAT Core Reading and Writing helps early high school students improve their content-related abilities on the SAT and/or ACT. This course provides a big advantage to students through early test content exposure. SAT Core students develop effective study strategies, increase reading comprehension, build larger word banks, and become top performers in honors humanities courses.
9th and 10th graders who enter SAT Core in the fall earn statistically higher SAT scores than students who begin prep later in high school! If your child needs structured reading, writing, and vocabulary practice or wants to get a head start on college exam prep, SAT Core is the way to go!
SAT II Subject Test Prep (10-12)
Most leading colleges require two or three SAT II Subject Tests in addition to the “regular” SAT or ACT. SAT IIs are much shorter standardized tests focusing on specific subjects, such as Chemistry, Literature, Spanish, etc. Knocking these tests out of the way early frees up more test training time for the SAT and ACT!
Fall 2017 SAT II Prep offerings include:
- Math IIc
*Fall 2017 SAT II courses are Test Training only. Students are expected to have finished general content review in all topics. Students must meet our minimum score guidelines on a required initial evaluation to join. Private tutoring is available for students in need of content review and reinforcement. Students looking for content review in group classes must wait for Spring 2018 to target June 2018 official tests.
SAT, ACT, or SAT/ACT Dual Prep (11-12)
SAT prep tutors used to say that 8 weeks of prep were sufficient for most students to take the exam in the 12th grade. In reality, “readiness” is not the issue—colleges only care about seeing high scores. SAT/ACT Dual Prep at MEK helps your child identify a test timeline customized for his or her current abilities and college goals. Students may focus on the SAT or ACT alone, but our proven and efficient Dual Prep program prepares your child for both tests in a streamlined system! On average, Dual Prep students earn higher scores than those who opt to train for a single test.
While college admissions committees will look at your child’s GPA, test scores, and extracurricular activities/community service, please remember that academics should remain his or her first priority! Success in school is the primary factor admissions officers look for while the total number of applicants continues to rise each year.
Academic Counseling Services: College App Consulting (11-12)
Is your child struggling to complete his or her Common App personal statement? What about the supplements? Is your family having a hard time managing test dates, application deadlines, and the hurdles of senior year?
Academic Counseling Services provides comprehensive 1-on-1 application help from the first stages of selecting a school list, to creating a resume, to drafting and finalizing the important college essay…all the way to submitting each required application. We will help your student submit his or her best application on time and take the stress out of the college admissions process!
*Individual tutoring sessions are also available for all college admissions exam prep programs. If your student requires highly individualized, 1-on-1 admissions prep, please schedule consistent tutoring sessions throughout the semester.
