Exam Prep 8
Begin BCA Prep During Summer 2018!
MEK is the leading private learning academy for magnet and private high school preparation. As of Spring 2018, 96 of our recent BCA Prep students have received invitations for interviews and are one step closer to entering their dream high school. BCA hands out about 600 interview invitations each year, meaning 1 out of 6 went to MEK students!
In Spring 2017, 55 of our students were admitted to the BCA Class of 2021. We are prepared to help incoming 8th graders take the first steps to beating the competition and gaining a spot in the Class of 2023!
About Exam Prep 8
This course covers foundational concepts for all high school admission tests and prepares students for rigorous Fall 2018 BCA/BT test training. All incoming 8th graders planning to apply to the Bergen County Academies, Bergen County Technical High School, Academies @ Englewood, or private schools (requiring the SSAT, HSPT, or ISEE) should build their core skills in Exam Prep 8.
Exam Prep 8 classes put special emphasis on boosting reasoning and critical thinking skills for optimal admission test performance. Morning and afternoon scheduling options are available!
• 4 separate classes (70 minutes each)
• Sessions: 3x per week (21 sessions total)
Verbal & Reading: Developing critical thinking skills with analogies, sentence completions, and reading comprehension drills (inferencing, finding evidence, and identifying main idea). Drills feature a variety of text types and genres, including political cartoons, poetry, and narrative passages.
Narrative Writing: Learning to express one’s own narrative voice to compose strong application and timed admission test essays. Students use engaging prompts to develop their own writing styles and gain critical essay experience. This class is a favorite among students with advanced reading skills!
This year (Summer 2018), Math 8 is divided into two classes to help students master number sense, calculation, and problem solving more effectively:
• Quantitative Reasoning
• Problem-Solving Math
*All students MUST take both math classes.
