From the Desk of College Counseling

As high school seniors prepare to write college essays, many are anxious and overwhelmed with the challenging task of crafting a meaningful personal statement. Creating a relevant story that shows a student’s character and maturity within a limited word count is a difficult and oftentimes daunting assignment for many. “How do I start?” “What should I write about?” “What are admissions officers looking for?” While there are no magic formulas to write the ‘perfect’ essay, our MEK counselors are here to ease the angst, turning this exercise into stress-free reflections.

We’re dedicated to helping students craft their best college applications.

The odds of acceptance at highly competitive colleges have dropped into the mid-single digits. Even with stellar academic grades and standardized test scores, the personal statement is the single most important element on a college application. While MEK counselors will not write essays on behalf of students, our time tested methods will guide them to write to the best of their abilities and take ownership of their works with pride.

Starting with our newly introduced course, Introspective Writing, students will have a chance to practice responding to identity and character questions as a prelude to the main Common App statement. Students will work one-on-one with a writing counselor to skillfully compose powerful essays with flair and finesse.

Brigitte Chang, MEK’s College Counselor

MEK’s popular and highly effective College Essay Boot Camp requires students to commit themselves to three full days of intensive writing. Our relaxed yet highly charged step-by-step method guides students to brainstorm ideas, reflect, write, and share with counselors and peers. In addition, with assistance on language, structure, grammar, and tone, students walk away with eye-catching and effective essays.

We also provide one-on-one essay consultations for students who wish to continue writing school specific supplemental essays or for students who prefer working on their personal statements in a non-group environment. In any setting, MEK counselors will provide the attention and guidance to complete all essays in a timely manner.

How will your admissions essays stand out? MEK’s highly qualified writing counselors are ready to help.
